ANTIC

August 08, 2002, The Head of State, His Excellency Mr. Paul BIYA created, the National Agency for Information Technologies and Communication (ANTIC) and assigned it the mission of promoting and monitoring the action of the public authorities in the field of ICT. A few years later, the President of the Republic promulgates on December 21, 2010, the Law on cybersecurity and cybercrime in Cameroon. Under this Law, ANTIC sees its missions extended to cybersecurity and cybercrime.

MISSIONS

This Law assign to ANTIC specific missions which revolve around five (05) axes : the promotion of ICT, management of naming and addressing resources, security audit, security watch and electronic certification.

* Electronic certifications

Regarding electronic certification, ANTIC is the Root Certification Authority and the Government Certification Authority. It ensures, on behalf of the State, the regulation, control and monitoring of activities related to electronic certification.

To carry out these activities, ANTIC has a National Public Key Infrastructure. As part of its electronic certification activities, ANTIC is responsible, among other things :
• to ensure the security of the national cyberspace, in particular online transactions, Information Systems and electronic communication networks ;
• to ensure on behalf of the State, the management of the life cycle of digital certificates and the security of the applications of the Administrations and Public Bodies ;
• to examine the requests for accreditation and to prepare the Specifications of the Certification Authorities and to submit them to the signature of the Minister in charge of Posts and Telecommunications ;
• to examine requests for approval of cryptographic means ;
• to prepare mutual recognition agreements with foreign Parties.
